Pikey Peak Trek Overview:

Pikey Peak trek is a short and easy hiking trail in the lower hilly regions of Everest Khumbu, encompassing various hilltops as panoramic viewpoints. A rather unexplored trekking destination, with a view of a wide range of Himalayas from Dhawalagiri on the west to Kanchanjunga on the east, makes the journey once in a lifetime worth a trip.

Pikey (pronounced PK) was formerly a pasture for the cattle and Yak to graze for the Sherpa community, and the peak was named after the deity of the local Sherpa clan. This place has a great spiritual significance as the local people visit the peak every year during Monsoon season with a group of Lama Monks, in order to conduct rituals and hang the prayer flags.

Buddhist cultural monuments like Stupas, Chhortens, Mani Walls, Prayer flags, Prayer Wheels decorate the trail, whereas the mountain vistas including mount Everest make it one of the best choices for beginner level trekkers. Passing through the terrace farming villages, green lush Rhododendron forests and Low Mountain passes, the Pikey Peak Trek offers travelers and trekkers the best holiday experience in Nepal.

Pikey Peak Trekking Route:

After a long drive from Kathmandu, the historical and cultural city of temples: the Pikey Peak trek begins from the small hill town of Dhap, the Pikey Peak trekking follows the rural Jhapre village of Nepal exploring the people and the lifestyle. The next day, the hiking journey ascends to the Base of Pikey peak, situated at an elevation of 3600 meters.

After summiting Pikey Peak elevated at 4060 meters; a good point for sunrise and sunset views in the Himalayas, the hiking trail follows to Bhanjhyang for overnight at the local lodge. From here the trekking trail ascends to Junibesi, where Sherpa village and Junibesi Monastery can be explored. Then on the sixth day of the Pikey Peak trekking, the trip heads towards Salleri walking through Rhododendron Forest, on the stone-stepped trail. A side hike to Tibetan monastery and retracing back to lodge for the celebration of the successful trekking and the next day drive back to Kathmandu.

Best season and weather for Pikey Peak Trek

The weather in Nepal is mostly favorable for a holiday trip almost every time of the year, except for the Monsoon Season, which falls during the month of  July and August as the skies are mostly covered in rain clouds. However, the Spring Season (March-Jun) and Autumn (Sep-Nov) are the best times for trekking in the Himalayas, including the Pikey Peak Trek.

Permits for Pikey Peak Trekking:

Entry permits for Gaurishankar Conservation Area and Travelers Information Management System (TIMS) are required for the Pikey Peak trekking. The fees for the entry Permits are included in the trekking package, hence Vertex Holiday will be liable for making them ready before the trekking journey begins.

Why chose Pikey Peak for Trekking:

Choosing a Pikey Peak Trekking trip is ideal for all types of trekkers, including beginners to experts, likewise a perfect trekking destination for trekkers seeking to explore the unspoiled natural and cultural aspects of the lower region of the Solukhumbu region home to Mount Everest. Sherpa people and their Tibetan influenced Buddhism Culture, tranquil forests, jaw-dropping mountain vistas, picturesque villages, stone stepped trails makes the Pikey Peak trek a wonderful experience.

Fitness and Trek Preparation:

Although the difficulty of the Pikey Peak trek is on a moderate scale, one must be physically fit and prepare for the adventure. As the highest elevation of the trek is 4065 meters, you might need quite strong lungs, therefore Yoga, Jogging, Climbing stairs, swimming, and similar activities are recommended at least a couple of weeks prior to the departure date.

Warm clothes including rain gears and a windcheater are to be prepared along with your toiletries and medications. Trekking poles and sunglasses will be helpful during the trek.

Food and Accommodation during Pikey Peak Trekking:

As a recently opened trekking destination, the infrastructures for food and accommodation are basic. Most of the lodges and teahouses are family-run homestays, with simply styled facilities. However, neat and tidy beds are available with warm blankets.

Most of the food products during Pikey Peak trekking are locally sourced organic products. The menu comprises typical Nepali cuisine, Dal Bhat: Rice, lentil soup, Curry, and pickles.
